Essential Craftsman started...


in 2007 as a blacksmithing 'hobby' business. With the close help of Cy Swan, Scott made a lot of really neat things and installed them in the local community. You can get a look at some of these items in our first ever YouTube video, which we made and posted in 2008. At that time Nate was in school out of state and there simply wasn't time to continue making YouTube videos.

In 2016, Scott and Nate took another run at putting content online. Fast-forward to present day, and our videos have received over 150 million views and have inspired hundreds of thousands to think differently about work, tools, and craftsmanship.

Creating this content is very satisfying, and we see it creating a positive impact in our own lives and in the lives of our viewers. The feedback has been enthusiastic and overwhelming, and we hope to continue producing content for years to come. Scott Wadsworth


Scott started working in 1974. His career as a craftsman has encompassed logging, saw milling, guiding elk hunters, production framing, commercial concrete, steel fabrication, blacksmithing and every aspect of residential carpentry and contracting.

Scott has been married to his high school sweetheart, Kelly Baldwin, for 43 years. They have four children and thirteen grandchildren.

He enjoys blacksmithing, teaching, building, gardening, spending time with grandchildren, church service, reading, playing music, and learning new things.

Nate is Scott and Kelly's oldest son. He has a background in real estate investment and development, and lives in Oregon with his beautiful wife, Ali, and four kids.

Nate works on production aspects of Essential Craftsman. He enjoys having his kids in the shop while filming and sneaking them into videos whenever possible.
